Living Room Progress

Another progress update for you all.  If you can recall from my welcome post here, we bought a house straight out of 1973.  Nowhere (except for maybe the basement...but we won't go there) was this more apparent than our living room.  It had it all, cedar panelling, mustard yellow shag carpet, velvet wallpaper, a hanging woven pendant lamp shade...retro indeed, but not in a good way.  So, we tore out the carpet and replaced it with laminate.  We removed the paneling and wallpaper and re-drywalled the two walls because the wallpaper peeled it back and some of the paneling was also glued to the wall.  Needless to say it is a work in progress.

So let us now take a look back...

And now...

The creature with the glowing eyes on the sectional is Flea, destroyer of vases and disruptor of peace and quiet.  The blankets are there to protect the couch, not because the cats actually claw at it, but because Flea likes to harass our other, much older, much crankier cat, Gordon by chasing him and their claws scratch up the couch when they run across it.  This is a lesson learned, either no cats or no leather.

So...what have we done so far?
  • Removed shag carpet
  • Removed cedar paneling
  • Removed velvet wall paper
  • Removed hanging pendant and blinds
  • Installed laminate flooring
  • Drywalled
  • Painted
What needs to be done still?
  • Install baseboards
  • Install transitions
  • Install electric fireplace and build mantle
  • Accessorize
